SURFRIDER
A SHARED MISSION FOR A HEALTHY OCEAN
We are proud to support the Surfrider Foundation, a non-governmental organization devoted to ocean conservancy and the preservation of our coastlines. Since 1984 the foundation, created by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, has grown to a community of over one million supporters and members. Breitling’s commitment to protecting our seas began in 1957 when Willy Breitling released the first SuperOcean watch, introducing the beauty and fragility of the undersea world to a new generation of diving enthusiasts and establishing “Sea” as one of Breitling’s three brand universes. Our partnership with Surfrider allows us to amplify our role as stewards of this environment, and to inspire others to do the same.
THE SURFRIDER FOUNDATION
Surfrider’s mission revolves around combating plastic pollution, preserving delicate coastal ecosystems, advocating for universal beach access, and safeguarding the wellbeing of our oceans. The organization is also dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusivity, allowing all individuals who appreciate the oceans, waves, and beaches to participate in its efforts. Since 2006, the foundation has won over 800 campaigns which have led to significant coastal-protection victories. These achievements cover a broad spectrum, from high-profile legislative change and long-term advocacy to water quality testing and community outreach.
OUR PARTNERSHIP
Plastic waste is a major contributor to ocean pollution, and both Breitling and Surfrider are dedicated to addressing this issue. Surfrider has been at the forefront of reducing of plastic waste internationally with initiatives that have already led to significant changes in legislation, including the European Directive that banned a wide range of single-use plastics in the EU. Our support will continue to aid the foundation in its crucial endeavor to diminish the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. By 2025, Breitling aims to eliminate plastic waste from our global operations. We’ll also be rolling up our sleeves at a local level to take part in Surfrider’s beach cleanups around the world.
