A history of growth since 1977
Learn about Hydrofarm’s humble beginning as a hydroponics innovator amid a difficult drought, and how that catapulted us to grow into the publicly traded house of brands and best-in-class indoor agriculture resource for retailers and commercial growers that we are today.
Hydrofarm is born
Marin County, CA
During the drought of 1977–78, founder Stuart Dvorin developed water-saving hydroponics that gained traction among gardeners to put Hydrofarm on the map.
Hydrofarm grows beyond its roots
With 65 employees, Hydrofarm moved its corporate headquarters to Petaluma, CA, in the heart of Sonoma County—a truly inspiring location with a rich horticultural history.
Major expansion
Our staff of “Hydrofarmers” more than doubled to 150+ employees, and our offices grew to 150,000 square feet.
A new leader in growth
Bill Toler joined as CEO, bringing 30+ years of senior executive experience at major consumer packaged goods companies, including seven years as CEO and president of Hostess Brands.
